thats funny,I spend 8 hours a day on my computer learning internet security and I try to post here and the fn title is shown in kmere script.Next time I will use my VPN software that shows my IP address from Romainia,who knows what that will look like. Well I went to the Friday open mic at the Warehouse last night, worked for free, got free beer of course and a waitress came up to me and said a guy out there wants to buy you a drink. I already had all the beer I wanted so I said I`ll have a B-52 ,I ended up having 3 of them and about 8 beers, after the show I talked with a girl for an hour then fell asleep on a couch at the bar.Somebody woke me up and got me a moto to take me home.I`m off Facebook but my friends that are on write about every show I do and other bands as well, the reports are in I was damn good last night AND my friends up there with me . They go to a page called "friends and expats in Seim Reap" or something to that effect. I can get the name of the page if anyone is interested,leave a comment. I dont like Facebook for many reasons but lets just say I didnt have time for it and leave it at that.So I have next month`s rent put away and more work coming up.Tom is in Sihanoukville for about 8-9 days so there goes 4 jobs I could be getting payed for.I still work every Tuesday hosting an open mic at a bar called Chilli`s. Last week the rain water in the street in front of the bar was knee deep, still 10-12 people showed up and I played acoustic guitar and sang by myself,before I didnt like doing that but now Im OK with it.After 4 years of singing a playing guitar a few nights every week, for the first time now I think IM an OK singer.
So I need to add more ram to my computer, of course the first thing to do is read everything I need to know on the subject. I can do the job myself so I went to the local computer store and they want $36 for a 1 gig ram stick. Sounds fair to me but putting that into perspective I used to make $1000 a week and pay $8-900 in bills a month, now I paid rent 2 weeks ago ,electric,water all came to $86. So $36 is alot of money. I will buy it next month I guess. I left USA because the work was running out, I had to sell all my toys, Harley,Corvette,tools just to eat and pay bills. I realized I was to old to get a real job and I tried, no company would hire me when your 50 you should not have to look for a job. Now the thought of getting up early in the morning to spend all day doing work and then most of your money ends up in the pockets of the criminal bankers one way or another, Id rather starve,and I have! Thanks to my family and friends,and my new friends my life is good for now, and the things I study on my computer everyday I hope will make me rich in a year or two.A word of advice, try not to do your banking online,they will have you believe it is safe, it is not! anyway, I left Facebook,sorry,
I did`nt go there much and lost my password. I think I will try to write here once a week and whoever cares to read may do so.
Too much rain! Everyday now for over a week, the streets downtown by the Old Market are flooded, I host an open mic gig there tonight they said it`s still on, money to be made so I will be there!
I`ve been in my apartment now almost 6 weeks and just got hooked up to the internet,before I had to go to the internet cafe`and pay 50 cents an hour,reasonable
i think but I have to be online at home.
So much to say but I just spent over an hour writing offline to post here.
Things are good, one of my guitar students had to go back to Korea and the other one
went back to France for a week or two, but I`m OK I still have 2-3 gigs a week and this is low season so things are good and should get better!....damn i try to write in title and it shows it in kmere script, just one more bug to fix.Keep checking back if you want,who knows, I may have something interesting to say,love Ken

I have alot of time on my hands and wifi and a notebook computer in my room. I like to learn. I never believe everything I read,hear or see for that matter. I check facts. I study economics and politics. Living in Cambodia for over 3 years I see America from the outside. Yes we get "So you think you can dance" on the TV here but but what kind of lazy fool would waste their time on that? Millions of sheeple thats who. The people I used to know in Florida would work,get beer and sit hypnotized in front of the TV thinking their getting real facts from FOX or CNN. I hate to break it to you but its all bullshit entertainment, you can find and verify real news from your computer but thats not as fun as the bs on facebook is it? It was raing last night and still we managed to to pack the place. It went pretty well, I felt alot of pressure, we didnt have a song list ready so about 15 minutes before we were to start playing we ( the "Route 66" band) had a meeting and it was like ok, what songs are we going to play first? It all seemed to fall on my shoulders and the stress was intense.but with a few beers and a pad of paper we came up with the first set that just happened to be songs that I do all the singing and blues soloing and it went over good. The second set Tom helped on vocals, the last set I switched to bass and Steve played his guitar and sang his songs. The first and last sets were the best,Steve knows how to get the crowd singing with us and that really helped.Im a blues player and have my strong points,but Steve is a performer, I can learn alot from him.

Thas my new/old guitar I bought on Thursday in Phnom Penh, rode a bus back to Sihanoukville,took the guitar apart,cleaned it,fixed it,put new strings on it and used it at the gig Saturday night. I looked at over a hundred guitars to find this one. It has a serial number and a date on it (1974). A true vintage guitar I love it!...and its black and white just like my bass guitar. How or why that happened I dont know.

wow! what blast that was last night! Larry was so good on guitar last night ,sometimes we will switch to me playing guitar and larry on bass for 2-3 songs but last night i said i will stick with the bass,besides, its easier and i didnt have to sing. even though sometimes i can really smoke the guitar with some blues solos, i didnt want to take the chanch of have an off night.

damn i should have brought my camera! the show went over really good,lots of people! the location is great,middle of downtown on a busy street. people could hear us from the street so many people came in, over 100 i would think. i saw at least 2 people shooting videos of us and alot of camera flashes. it was great sitting at the v.i.p. table with the boss and his friends.he paid us more than our agreement,and of course free beer and if we would have showed up a little sooner a free dinner was included.....anyway, he wants us every saturday but we still have a problem with larry having to go home at some point,well, we can deal with that when it happens. for now,things going good! later,ken

well, a few months ago a young french invester (paul) came to rainy season bar.he dumped about $8000 into making improvments ,built a new toilet,covered the lounge upstairs,and buying 3 guitars,mics and drums and thought musicians would just come out of the woodwork and jump at the oppertunitity to have a place to jam,drink and have fun. the problem is that alot of new bars have been built and not so many tourists showing up this season. the rs bar is a little off the beaten track,the location is not that good. the only time people would show up is when live music (me) on tuesdays and fridays,and that has not been bringing people in very much the last 2 weeks or so.....anyways paul gave up and walked away from his investment.just packed a bag and left said hes not coming back! i cought him just as he was leaving and asked to buy his bass guitar from him.(the black one in picture) he said "just take it,its yours now" i said well let me give you $25 dollars for it,he said no,im giving it to you.i said thanks! now i own 3 guitars. ...more good news,tonight we (our 3 piece band that i play bass in) is booked at the freedom hotel in the middle of downtown.we told the owner about 3 weeks ago what to buy to have live music in his bar,p.a. system,amps,drums, and he did it,got just what we said to get. this place is very popular,always has alot of customers,there could be 50-100 people tonight,we had a sound check yesterday,a few cliches but sounded ok,we play from 10:00 pm to 1:00 with 2 breaks, money not so bad,this is a big thing for us,we are still the only live music in this town and i started it back in july at the frog shack playing by myself with my solo act that i dont like to do anymore,but im getting by,have some money saved, and things are ok for now,im a bit nervous about tonight,but im sure they will love us....i hope!,love ya,talk soon.

i wish i could just sell something like this 6 foot hand carved wooden buddha for about $800, maybe i should just try ebay and see what happens. it weights about 200 pounds,shipping could be a hassel although the port is just a mile or so away.anyways, im gonna find something to export,must be something people want from this side of the world.

well thats larry on guitar,tommy on drums,and me on bass playing at (la or) bar.we where playing 4 nights a week and it was alot of fun! too bad it has to end. larry was just passing through and now he says he has to leave. the reason i was playing bass is that larry knows alot of easy 4 chord songs that are easy for a bass player to pick up on ,on the spot. my guitar songs i use in my acoustic act have alot of breaks and chord changes witch would mean practice time. these gigs we just thrown together and we sounded pretty good! we will all miss larry, hes a really good guy to know also.

a new bar opened last night with free beer and food. that goes on about once a week here. last night was great, the owner hired about 30 young women all dressed in black (hostesses)and the food there was the best!after that my friends(who are bar owners) and i went to their bars and drank more beer,and i got back to my room at 5am.what a night!i have alot of fun here for sure but sometimes i get depressed, i dont really miss america, but i do miss courtney, and i wish i had more money for sure but i do get paid for playing guitar and thats a cool thing to be doing.

well thursday night i played at retox bar, and guy from ireland his name is jelly he plays harmonica stopped in so we did some niel young and some blues. wow it was fun! then last night(friday) i player at rainy season and one of my friends had a birthday party there and other people showed up so we had good crowd, i was happy about that.oh and jelly was there to do a few songs with me so i was`nt alone up there all night playing the same songs that im sick of playing.thursday night on the way back to my room by the beach i stopped for something to eat downtown at 3 in the morning like ive been doing this time i was alone, sometimes im there with a girl i let hang out with me named sunny. anyway im at this roadside cafe and 2 young khmere guys pulled up and talked to me and said i owe them money for a moto fare i did`nt pay. which is total bullshit they where trying to extort money from me. i called my personal driver named "tha" pronounced "ta". as soon as those thugs heard me say his name they left fast. tha showed up 5 minutes later, i ate and he took me home. you get a reputation fast in this town good or bad....mine is top knoch at this point and i make sure it stays that way.anyways, no more eating downtown alone at 3 am, could have been a problem if i had forgotten to bring my phone or something....oh i gave a guitar lesson today,a few extra bucks!...later ken

well, the first night i played at" rainy season bar" is when i met richie who owns a bar called retox. i guess about 5 weeks ago. him and his dad are the best people i could have ever met.they are from england, i cant say enough good things about them and there friends who ive been getting to know also. anyway i jam on electric guitar there with friends or play an acoustic set myself about 2 times a week. last week at "rsb" after the first set 5 people left because they had a scuba trip in the morning. it was a very slow night and that was about half the people there, i was very depressed. but then after eating a big plate of bbq, free for me, 2 of my friends who work at a bar on the beach near where i stay, showed up with 5 friends so i did a set with the dirty stories and all my best songs and it went over real good. the next night "saturday" was a grand opening of a a place called "the finlandia" owned by, you guest it, guys from finland.that was free food and beer from 6:00- 10:00 then we went to another bar after that. the next night we had a jam at retox,that was fun! today is tuesday im invited to a kmere birthday party tonight, i think i will go. then i play retox on thursday rsb on friday then im going to phnom phenn to stay with my friend andy who just quit bartending at frog shack because the new manager is a jerk. so im going up there to look for more bars to hire me and try to join a good blues band, but still keep my playing commitments here by the beach, just move the nights i play closer or work something out. pp is about 4 hours from on a bus that cost about $3.75 each way. well, alot i could say but i need to learn more songs before the weekend, i better get at it.

beach thailand. i have room at the frog shack ,sometimes at night i can hear the ocean from my bed. i have been in cambodia for about nine weeks now and have made some great friends. going back to when i first came to ochheuteal beach sihanoukville cambodia i was walking down the beach and i saw an old rusty stringed guitar hanging on a wall at a bar. i asked if i could play a song,there was about 7 or 8 people there. they said yes if you can tune it your wellcome to play it. so i played one of the few songs i remembered (its only love) a beatle song. well they all clapped and said that was good what bar do you play at? i said i just got here i never even thought about playing in a bar. it turns out that there are maybe over a hundred beach bars in cambodia and no live entertainment.noneat all! many people, backpackers mostly pass thru but no one really stays very long. so a few days later i was telling people at some bar about the rusty gutiar and thats when i met peter. peter said he has 2 good guitars and he owns a bar, lets go there now if your any good and you want to stay i want you to play at my bar (frog shack) about 2 or 3 nights a week. well we hit it off great right right from the start. he bought me a cd player and burned about 60 songs and asked if i could learn enough to play a set in 2 weeks for a big party he had planned. so everyday i would learn a song or 2 and and every night i would go to the frog and play for him what i learned. so it was time for the party and i had about an hour of songs to play on stage by myself. kinda scary up there just me and a guitar trying to be an entertainer. i did pull it off, people liked me and peter was very happy. well that was his going away party, he went back home to sweden.well after he left things changed, i was getting free food, beer,money, and a room to play 2 nights a week.but when peter left he put a real asshole in charge of his bar who doesnt like me so that was the end of that....then i met richie who owns a bar called retox up on victory beach. that will be my next story.

i dont know how to delete the old blogs yet but im still just learning. i have alot of pictures im going to post next week and stories to tell. i have a gig tonight up at victory beach called "rainy season bar"im going to try to get a song or two on video to post here. i played last night at my friend richie`s bar called "retox". what a great time we had! a bass player stopped in who played just like jack bruce. we played "spoonful"for half an hour and man we just blew everyone away! even i was impressed and im very hard to please when it comes to my guitar playing.

On a visit to Thailand Im in Bangkok with my friend named Pawn. Her real name is Tannaporn. I know what your thinking, but no joke thats her name and we like it. Well one night in the hotel we where just hanging out and I declaired that I was going to the 7-11 for some snacks I said "do you want anything?" She said " yes me-oak". I said what? She said "me-oak". What? "Me-oak, me-oak". I toss her a very puzzeled look. She gets up, goes over to the garbage pale and picks up an empty carton of milk..."ME-OAK!"

I like to visit Thailand, been there seven times. I went to Pattaya Beach about an hour and a half bus ride from Bangkok. I went by myself but I was rearly alone. My friend took me a few miles up the hill to the Buddha Temple. An amazing place, one Buddha statue about fifty feet tall and maybe six or so out buildings with small images to pray before and make your wish. As you enter these buildings you have to remove your shoes,very important. I did so and recieved some incents and flowers and three or four small swatches of gold flake about a square inch each adhered to seperate squares of wax paper.Well after lighting candles and incents while kneeling in front of a six-foot statue covered in small gold flake it was easy to see what my next task was in this centuries-old ritual . We got up, stood in line of maybe seven people or so appling the gold leaf to the Buddha one by one. My turn, "I never did this before" I wispered to my friend."No problem, it easy" She said. Well I go to stick the first piece on the Buddha arm and the damn gold slips away from the wax paper, out of my hand and falls toward the ground just like a dried leaf on a windless day floating side to side. Time stood still. A quick glance at my friends face summed up the moment.Terror! That gold must not touch the godforesaken filthy floor or some ancient monster will eat us all alive or some shit like that.Her mouth dropped and her eyes screemed of shame! I stayed cool. I followed the gold leaf side to side with both my hands cupped under it and cought it in the nick of time....toche`. I shot her a look of bold American confidence. She gave a smile of total embarressment. "Silly Farang". Two words I will hear alot on this vacation.

Playing Guitar

I remember a very powerful feeling not everyone gets to expirience. I used to play guitar in a rock band 20 years ago. Sometimes we would play before an audiance of maybe a thousand people. I would be hung over and scared shitless. We would be playing a song we have played so many times before I hate the damn thing. Then in the middle of the song I start to come alive. My solo starts, I improvise so its never the same. I start out slow and quiet. I get a little louder and faster..Sparks begin to fly! I have my eyes closed and Im going at it full force! Picking notes out of the air and stuffing them into a musical phrase with intense comunnication. Im in a complete state of rapture. Im wondering where this cosmic connection is comming from. I peak out at the crowd.Its blurry. I can see the energy. Its from them! the people out there. Beaming me all these waves of creative energy, all this stuff,their auras,vibrations comming from their bodys, their spirits and sending it to me! I feel so blessed, so thankful ,warm. ....Wow, sure nipped my hang over in the bud!

Cheese Snacks

One night in the dark hypnotised by the glow of the TV. I was eating cheese crackers,the kind where the cheese flakes where all over the outside of the cracker and you have to wash your hands afterwords. Sort of a high mantenance snack food if you ask me. I feel something very small crawling on my hand that Im eating from. Then something on my lips. I turn on the light. Goddamn ants all over my box of cheese-shits. I feel scweemy.

Today I had pancakes again.For the last month Ive been having them every morning.The frozen kind, stick them in the microwave for a minute and ten seconds and there you have it. Breakfast of champions! How could anyone not love these? I smother them in real butter and maple syrup as my heart beats fast with anticipation I cant wait to dig in. But wait , somethings wrong, today they feel spongy,taste lifless,boring. Someone screwing with me?...Another love affair over.
